AmCham China invites you to a special book launch lecture with Professor David Shambaugh of George Washington University, who will discuss his new book China Goes Global: The Partial Power. The book assesses various dimensions of China's "going out" (走出去) strategy and the degree to which China is really becoming a global power.
By many measures China is the world's most important rising power and it has become the world's second leading power (after the United States). But just how strong and influential is China really? Is it really a global power--or just a regional (Asian) power? In exactly what dimensions can China be considered a global power--and in what dimensions is it still lacking global influence? What are China's intrinsic strengths and inherent weaknesses and challenges in becoming a global power? What kind of power is China--a cooperative one or a disruptive one? How is China viewed around the world? Is Beijing proactively shaping world events or just reacting to them? What is China contributing to global governance? Is China really poised to become a world leader, or something less? In his lecture, Professor Shambaugh will address these and other questions concerning China's ascent on the international stage.
