AmCham China and the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy are pleased to invite you to a lunch presentation with Yukon Huang, a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Previously he was the World Bank's country drector for China.

Markets are disappointed by China's recent growth indicators but policy makers are more concerned about the prospects for moving to a new growth model. Practically everyone believes that for China to achieve high income status it must rely on a more balanced growth process – one that relies more on consumption than investment and is driven more by innovation than labor intensive activities. Suppose that the opposite is true. Drawing on the experience of other successful East Asian countries, the argument is made that for the rest of this decade, a successful growth path may well involve continued imbalances and labor intensive activities. But the transition to a sustainable and relatively still high growth rate will require a set of major policy reforms.
