Fannin will cite examples, anecdotes and case studies of leading venture investors and entrepreneurs in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, including Jack Ma of Alibaba; Joe Chen of Renren; Hurst Lin of SINA and DCM; and Neil Shen of Sequoia Capital China, CTrip, 7 Days and Home Inns. Her talk will draw on her research and interviews for two recent books, "Silicon Dragon" (McGraw-Hill, 2008) and "Startup Asia" (John Wiley, 2011), and numerous Forbes articles.
Fannin is a contributor to Forbes, where she writes regularly about venture capital, startups, and innovation trends in China, India, and emerging tech hubs. In 2010, she formed Silicon Dragon Ventures, which has hosted annual forums in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangalore, New York, London, Palo Alto and other startup zones internationally. Her group also publishes the 10,000-circulation newsletter, Silicon Dragon News. Highlights of her journalistic career include editing the Pulitzer-owned International Business magazine, covering digital media for Ad Age International, writing about the dotcom boom in Asia and Europe for Red Herring, and documenting China's first Internet entrepreneurs for The Deal and CEO. Additionally, she has authored two thought leadership reports on tech innovation and outsourcing for KPMG, and a digital marketing and media paper for Sony Ericsson.
