The American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China (AmCham China) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose membership comprises 4,000 individuals from 900 companies operating across China. The Chamber’s nationwide mission is to help American companies succeed in China through advocacy, information, networking, and business support services. In addition to our headquarters in Beijing, AmCham China serves Tianjin, Central China, and Northeast China through our Chapters in Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, and Wuhan. Across the five offices, AmCham China has more than 30 working groups, and holds more than 150 events each year.

As part of our efforts to engage with Chinese domestic think tanks, AmCham China is pleased to host an in-person meeting with President Yuan Peng and Assistant President Wang Honggang at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Affiliated with the Ministry of State Security, CICIR is one of the most influential civilian research institutions for international studies in China. AmCham China Chairman Greg Gilligan will be sharing introductory remarks about the chamber's recent work and advocacy efforts, as well as exchanging views with CICIR on US-China relations.

Dr. Yuan Peng, Research Professor and Doctoral Advisor, is the President of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR). He earned his PhD in World History in 1997 from Northeast Normal University. He was once a visiting scholar at the Atlantic Council (1999-2000) and Brookings Institution (2003-2004). Previously, he served as CICIR’s Vice President and Director of CICIR’s Institute of American Studies. He has been engaged in American studies for decades, particularly focusing on U.S. foreign policy, Sino-U.S. relations and Asia-Pacific security. He is the author or editor of several books such as American Think-Tanks and Their Attitudes toward China (Current Affairs Press, 2003), China and the U.S. Accommodating in the Asia Pacific: China, America and the Third Parties (Current Affairs Press, 2013), From Westphalia to a New World Order (China CITIC Press, 2016). He was elected to be Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of International Relations, Executive Director of Chinese Society of American Studies and Executive Director of All China Association for Taiwan Studies. He is fluent in English.

Dr. Wang Honggang, Research Professor, is Assistant President of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR) and concurrently Director of the CICIR Institute of American Studies. Previously, he served as the Deputy Director of American Studies (2009-2014) and Director of World Politics Studies (2015-2018). He got PhD in international relations from CICIR in 2010. Dr. Wang has been following American domestic and foreign affairs, China-U.S. relations, global strategic trends and the holistic view of China’s national security for years. His new book World Trends 2050 (《世界趋势2050》) was published by China CITIC Press in November 2018. He is fluent in English.
