We are proud to announce the addition of AmCham China board of governors member Pat Powers to our esteemed list of event speakers!


AmCham China, Tianjin and Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd. (CTL) cordially invite you to this exclusive plant tour on June 4, 2019 followed by lectures and presentations on Automation and Lean Manufacturing.


This event is part of Amcham Tianjin Chapter's Manufacturing and Sustainability forum and extends additional focus on topics such as Advanced Manufacturing, Supply Chain Planning, and Sustainability. Amcham China, Tianjin branch will work throughout the year to have a member company host events that specialize in areas of need for our member companies. This is the 20th stop in AmCham China Tianjin's series of company tours introducing our members to the world of advanced manufacturing, with previous stops at Toyota, Volkswagen, Boeing, GE, ADM, Bombardier, TCW, and many more.


Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd. is a fully owned Caterpillar subsidiary established in Tianjin Airport Economic area in November of 2010. CTL assembles, tests and paints Caterpillars gold standard 3500 series engines and generator sets which have been serving customers for over 35 years. The products produced at CTL are for customers in the region and serve the Electric Power, Oil & Gas, and Marine markets.


This will be an excellent opportunity to network with other industry experts and catch up on the latest developments in the area. Seats are limited so please reserve your place ASAP. The bus will leave from Exchange Tower 2 at 12:00 p.m. sharp.

    Dwight Nordstrom has over 30 years of experience in doing business in China. Since 1990, he has been the Chairman (initially President) of PRI, a USA manufacturing-holding company with 20+ equity investments in China. PRI also has a consulting division (Beijing & Shanghai primarily locations) with support functions for start-up and/or expansion of manufacturing and application engineering in China. Mr. Nordstrom has been General Manager “GM” of 7 factories in China with employment ranging from 30 to over 750. He served 3-years as Minco China/Korea start-up GM with sales growing over 3X, developed very profitable sourcing & design engineering & local manufacturing efforts. He has been interim GM for 1+ year at PRI’s 100%-owned media division ZDL – largest Judeo-Christian ethics-content publisher in China. He was also, in the late 1980’s, the China Country Manager for one of GE’s divisions -- this was a GE HQ-corporate position. As of 2017, Mr. Nordstrom is in his 13th year as Chairman of the Manufacturing & Sourcing Forum for the American Chamber of Commerce (China). Mr. Nordstrom has written, on average, 1 published article per year since 1990. He has served on 10+ board of directors as well as been executive “coach” for many China Country Managers.

    Director of Government Affairs at Rockwell Automation

    Patrick Powers has 30 years of experience in international commerce, government relations and trade policy, achieved in a career that has spanned Asia but focused primarily on China. He has lived and worked in China for more than 20 years, in addition to assignments in Singapore, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

    He was appointed the Director of Government Affairs for Rockwell Automation China in early 2014. Mr. Powers began his career with Bechtel, Inc., and held successive management positions at Island Creek of China Coal Ltd (Occidental Petroleum), SSM Coal BV, SHV Holdings, Tait Asia Ltd. (Vietnam), Mundoro Mining, Cargill, and Applus+.
    Mr. Powers held the position of Vice President for China Operations at the US-China Business Council, the primary organization dealing with Sino-American commercial matters from 1999 to 2006. In that role, he was responsible for business advocacy and advisory services on behalf of 250 American MNC’s operating in the PRC. Mr. Powers has extensive experience in government relations and communications in China and Asia as well as a background in business development and operations in natural resources, large scale retailing, consumer goods warehousing and distribution.

    He has spoken frequently on China-related topics at international conferences and appeared on numerous occasions in media, including CCTV, CNN, CNBC, and Bloomberg, as well as contributing articles to The China Business Review. He has a BA from San Diego State University and has pursued advanced language and professional development courses At UC Berkeley, National Taiwan Normal University, and Singapore Institute of Management. Mr. Powers is a fluent Mandarin speaker.
