On August 18, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in Washington, DC initiated an investigation to determine whether acts, policies, and practices of the Government of China related to technology transfer, intellectual property, and innovation have harmed U.S. interests and are actionable under section 301(b)(1) of the Trade Act of 1974. As outlined in the Federal Register notice, the investigation will look at four areas of concern: forced technology transfer, unfair licensing arrangement, acquisition of U.S. companies, and government-supported cyber-theft. There will be a public hearing on October 10, 2017 on this investigation and comments for that hearing from companies or industry associations need to be submitted by September 28.
On Tuesday, September 26 at 10:00 am, AmCham China will host a senior member of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing to explain the Section 301 process and answer member questions.
