Six Thinking Hats is a system designed by Edward de Bono which describes a tool for group discussion and individual thinking involving six colored hats. Dr. Edward de Bono is known as the founder to change the way of thinking of human being in the 20th century. He is recognized as the father of innovative thinking as the contributions in the field of creative thinking and thinking training.

"Six Thinking Hats" and the associated idea parallel thinking provide a means for groups to plan thinking processes in a detailed and cohesive way, and in doing so to think together more effectively.

After you learn the skills behind The Six Thinking Hats system, you will:

• Hold critical meetings without emotions or egos making bad decisions
• Avoid the easy but mediocre decisions by knowing how to dig deeper
• Reduce conflicts at work and in private life
• Increase productivity and, even more important, be more effective
• Make creative solutions the norm
• Maximize and organize each person's thoughts and ideas

Part 1
: What is special about the Six Thinking Hats method? 
  • Benefits of parallel thinking vs. adversarial thinking
  • Quality of thinking can be improved.
  • Thinking is the basis our actions,  alas actions might also become different as a result of an improved  way of thinking.  

Part 2: The Six Hats, one by one:  
  • The White Hat: calls for information known or needed
  • The Red Hat: signifies feelings, hunches and intuition 
  • The Black Hat: is judgment – the devil’s advocate or  why something may not work
  • The Yellow Hat: has symbolizes brightness and optimism 
  • The Green Hat: focuses on creativity, the possibilities, alternatives and new ideas
  • The Blue Hat: is used to manage the thinking process

  • David Zhu

    David Zhu

    David is a member of ASTD (US) and an IPMA (UK)-accredited trainer. He is a certified DISC trainer and received a Fundamental Certificate from the Co-Active Coaching Program (accredited by ICF) in 2011.
    David is a management trainer and consultant with more than 25 years of sales and management experience in multinational companies in the US and China. He is the former Project Director and Business Development Director for ECI Telecom Ltd. While at Cisco Systems China as the National Account Manager, he led a team responsible for global key accounts, including China Telecom Group and China Mobile Corp.
    David has been engaged in management consulting since 2004. He develops and delivers training programs for clients such as Bosch, Cisco, Dell, DMG, DMG MORI, EMAG, Engel, Fujitsu, GM, Google, HP, Johnson Controls, Kimberly-Clark, Lenovo, LEUCO, Mercedes Benz, Microsoft, Porsche, Vollmer, Volvo. These courses include: Insight Selling, Key Account Management and Sales Management for Sales, Leadership Development and Project Management for Junior and Senior Managers, as well as other soft skills programs for cross-functional staff. David was a guest trainer in dealer leadership programs for General Motors and Daimler in China from 2009-2013. He customized the global programs to fit China’s situation and led the follow-up coaching project.
    David is not a fan of “the classics” or off-the-shelf material. He believes in a consultative training solution, for which he invests time in needs analysis, program development as well as follow-up work. He delivers with passion and impact so the participants are always engaged and involved. His cross-cultural background and rich experience in different industries (International trade, IT, Telecom, Automotive) add value to his programs.

    David graduated from Tsinghua University in 1989 with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering. He received his MBA from UIBE in 2000.
