Join us for an exciting half-day event hosted by the AmCham China on May 10 at the Chamber's Beijing offices, where we'll guide you through kickstarting your study journey in the United States.


We're excited to invite Erin Metcalf, a public engagement officer currently leading EducationUSA programming at the U.S. Embassy Beijing, and Annie Kennelly, Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy Beijing, to discuss the most recent trends and visa policies for studying in the US. In addition, representatives and experts from esteemed institutions and organizations will be sharing their expertise on various key topics.


Whether you're a prospective student, a parent, or an educator, this event is designed to provide you with essential insights and practical tips to navigate the complexities of studying in the US. Stick around for a Q&A session to address any concerns about US travel policies and student safety.


This event is open to all AmCham China members. Attendees are required to RSVP by May 9 to confirm attendance.

    Public Engagement Officer at U.S. Embassy Beijing

    Erin Metcalf is public engagement officer currently serving as the head of EducationUSA programming for U.S. Embassy Beijing. Prior to joining the United States Foreign Service, Erin worked in strategic communications, primarily with public education and not for profit organizations. Originally from North Carolina, Erin received her bachelor’s in public relations and master’s in mass communication from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Erin speaks Mandarin and Spanish.

    Annie Kennelly is a Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. Annie has worked in the Non-Immigrant Visa section since arriving in Beijing in January 2023. Born and raised in New Jersey, Annie is a consular-coned generalist who joined the Foreign Service in 2022. Before joining the Foreign Service, Annie worked at a big four accounting firm specializing in risk analysis and audit readiness. Annie graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS) in Washington, DC.

    Director of China Office of University of Minnesota

    Fran Liu joined the University of Minnesota (U of M) China Office in 2019. Her work focuses on advancing the University brand systemwide by sharing U of M information with prospective students and families, engaging the Chinese alumni communities, and developing educational collaborations between the University and its partners in China.

    As the University representative office in China, Fran and her team have achieved a 15% annual growth in follower base through social media marketing and signature events each year. Fran has been invited by the EducationUSA Beijing Office as a speaker to co-present the annual counselors' training workshops.

    Before joining U of M, Fran worked in marketing, business development, and public affairs from local start-ups to U.S. Fortune 500s. Fran is a dynamic and innovative problem-solver who grew business revenue tremendously in her entrepreneurial experiences. Fran holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and earned her master's degree in business from the University of Washington - Seattle, Foster School of Business.

    Frank Au is the Executive Chairman of PacificPine Sports and oversees strategy, corporate development, M&A, and fundraising.

    Mr. Au is the co-founder and Managing Partner of PacificPine Group, an investment firm focused on technology, healthcare and consumer businesses in China. Mr. Au has spent over 20 years covering the technology and healthcare market in China. Mr. Au has spent over 15 years as an entrepreneur having founded, built and sold an independent investment banking business in China.

    Mr. Au is the former President of China Renaissance Securities (HK), the wholly-owned broker-dealer subsidiary of China Renaissance Group (1911:HK). Mr. Au was the former CEO of Cowen Asia. Mr. Au was the co-founder and President of Latitude Capital Group, a boutique M&A and private placement advisory firm, which was acquired by Cowen Group (COWN:US). Prior to co-founding Latitude, Mr. Au was the former Head of Internet investment banking for Greater China at Lehman Brothers Asia.

    Mr. Au holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Columbia University.

    Executive Director of Notre Dame Beijing, University of Notre Dame.

    Jingyu Wang serves as the executive director of the Beijing Global Gateway, University of Notre Dame.

    Wang previously taught at Princeton University as a Lecturer in New Jersey. She also worked as the Research Associate at University of Notre Dame to coordinate the US Department of Education Title VI project with the theme “Undergraduate International Studies & Foreign Language". Wang was the founding Director of Chengdu American Center for Study Abroad from 2012 to 2018 in collaboration with Chengdu Municipal Government in China.

    Wang earned her master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Beijing Normal University. She used to teach Chinese literature at Daqing No. 4 High School. Additionally, Wang was a co-author of A Kaleidoscope of China through Princeton University Press in 2009.

    Stephanie serves as United Airlines' Northern China Regional Sales Manager, based in Beijing. She oversees passenger sales operations and brings over 20 years of experience in the aviation and travel industry, with expertise in Revenue Management, Public Relations, Marketing, and Sales.

    Starting her career as a trainee with Air China, Stephanie gained experience in Revenue Management and Public Relations. She later held positions as PR Manager with Richina Underwater World and San Miguel China Investment. In 2000, Stephanie joined United Airlines as a Corporate Account Manager, managing key Fortune 500 and Chinese corporate accounts within the China Point of Sale (POS) market.

    Stephanie's exceptional performance earned her the Chairman’s Award after the merger of United and Continental in 2011. Promoted to Sales Manager for Northern China in 2017, she now oversees sales distribution channels in the region, including BSP agencies, OTAs, tour operators, and corporate sales.

    United Airlines now operates the most direct flights from China to the US, with 14 weekly nonstop flights from Beijing and Shanghai to San Francisco, connecting passengers to over 280 destinations across America.
