Join us for the first in a new series of Health Matters events, launched by AmCham China’s Women’s Professional Committee! The stress that professional women living in China encounter from work, family, and society can have important ramifications for their health and prevent them from enjoying a high quality of life.

To help women think about ways to pay closer attention to their health, and manage their wellness, join our distinguished group of panelists. Dr. Xiaoyue Huang from Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics will talk about the importance of breast and cervical cancer prevention and screening procedures, Dr. Lucy Chen from International SOS will address the perils of Vitamin D deficiency, and Dr. Emily Victoria Kara from Oasis Hospital will brief on how to maintain health in the preconception and pregnancy stages of a woman's life. Su Cheng Harris-Simpson, the Co-Chair of WPC will moderate this session. Although targeted toward professional women, men are welcome join and learn how women can take better care of themselves and their loved ones.

This is an interactive series and we hope to hear from you on specific women’s health concerns that could be a part of our Health Matters series.

    Lucy Chen

    Family Doctor, Maternal and child health specialist at International SOS

    Dr Chen was born in Taiwan and immigrated to Montreal Canada in childhood. After completing her medical training in Canada, 1986, she has worked in USA, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. She had worked with “Doctors without Borders” in refugee camps in Hong Kong. She taught family medicine at Hong Kong Chinese University and at the Family Medicine Residency Program at San Francisco General Hospital in USA in the early 1990s. She is currently a clinic doctor at International SOS, Beijing clinic since 18 years. She is a Designated Panel Physician for United Nations, Tricare and for the Canadian Embassy. Dr Chen is married with two children and has much experience in the challenges of expatriate living.

Since moving to China in 1997, Su Cheng has been actively involved in the Beijing business community, served on the Board of AmCham and is currently a co-chair for the AmCham Women Professional Committee, SME and Golf Committee. She has forged relationships with the American, British, Japanese and Australian Chambers of Commerce, the U.S. Embassy and a range of Beijing civic groups. Before becoming an social entrepreneur she was engaged in the corporate arena and held management positions at The Boeing Company, United Technologies Corporation, and The Capital Club in Beijing.

    Dr. Huang is an American who is originally from Beijing. She completed her Medical Degree at the Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis in 2007. Dr. Huang later finished her residency training and a research fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. Before joining Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics, Dr. Huang worked at Group Health Cooperative and Neighborcare Health in Seattle.
     
    Dr. Huang’s passion is providing tailored primary care with an emphasis on preventative measures. She also specializes in the strategic, long-term management of chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes. Dr. Huang is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
     
    Dr. Huang speaks English and Mandarin.

    Dr Emily Kara is a British GP licensed by the General Medical Council (GMC). She completed her medical degree at Oxford University in 2004. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) and the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). She also holds the GP Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG). She has been working at Oasis International Hospital since February 2015 mainly in the Family Medicine Department, but appointments are also available with her for Gynaecology check-ups and antenatal care in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.
