Event Details
American Chamber of Commerce in China members are invited to attend a performance of ‘War Horse’ – the first co-production between the National Theatre of Great Britain and the National Theatre of China. The performance will be preceded by an inter-chamber networking event, during which time drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. The performance will be in Mandarin, with English subtitles available on this night only.
First premiered in London in 2007, ‘War Horse’ has been seen by over 6 million people worldwide and been performed over four thousand times. Based on the popular children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo, the story follows the relationship between a young boy and a horse at the beginning of the 20th century, powerfully highlighting the roles played by men and horses during the First World War.
This world-class performance of puppetry marks the beginning of a new chapter in theatre history, not only in terms of the collaboration between the two world-famous theatre groups, but more importantly to demonstrate how the performance arts can allow for truly positive inter-cultural understanding. What might take years to achieve around the table during negotiations could take merely minutes to achieve through watching professional Chinese performers perform a story of both historical and cultural significance to the western world.
Registration
Tickets cost RMB 350 (including one performance ticket for ‘Warhorse’ worth RMB 280; one glass of red wine; fruit and cake; performance brochure). Additional drinks and snacks will be available for purchase on the evening.
