    President of Gordon College

    Award-winning sociologist D. Michael Lindsay is the president of Gordon College and is among the youngest presidents in the countrys. Under his presidency, unrestricted giving to Gordon has increased 60 percent, the College has welcomed its largest incoming classes in the institution’s 125-year history, and Gordon has climbed 14 spots in the national rankings.

    In 2006, he was named the “most promising sociologist under 35” at the World Congress of Sociology. Lindsay’s Pulitzer-nominated book, "Faith in the Halls of Power," was listed in Publishers Weekly’s “Best Books of 2007.”

    "Platinum: The Inside World of Power and Success" is based on the largest set of in-depth interviews conducted with major leaders – including former Presidents Carter and Bush and hundreds of CEOs at the nation’s largest corporations and nonprofits, including 20 percent of the Fortune 100.

    Lindsay graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Baylor University and earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University.

Event Details

Dr. Michael Lindsay recently completed the PLATINUM Study, a comprehensive research project that explores the personal, moral, organizational and social factors that sustain leaders of major institutions in our society. The project represents the largest ever interview-based study of senior American leaders with more than 550 senior executives in business, government, higher education, and non-profit institutions participating, including two US Presidents; CEOs of Fortunate 500 companies such as General Electric, JP Morgan Chase, Time Warner, and Xerox; and presidents of some of the world’s leading universities.

In presenting the study’s findings, Lindsay explains how leaders:
  • Rise to prominence
  • Face challenges and opportunities
  • Manage intense workloads
  • Balance work and family commitments
  • Leverage meetings to be most effective
  • Develop habits of excellence in their interpersonal leadership
  • Establish legacies of influence beyond their tenure
