Event Details

Four ministries issued a notice to strengthen the administration of foreign nationals working on short-term period in China, titled "Trial Implementation on Relevant Formalities for Foreigners to Carry Out Short-term Assignment in China" (Notice 78). Jointly released by the ministries of Human Resources and Social Security, Foreign Affairs, Public Security and Culture in China, Notice 78 became effective on Jan. 1, 2015.

Officials from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy will present and clarify the following issues:

· The definition and the scope of short-term work
· The additional requirements during Z-visa application for a short-term work purpose
· The most common problems encountered by applicants during the business visa application process

During the Q&A session, the speakers will answer questions from the audience as well as those received prior to the event. Questions can be submitted to Elizabeth Barrett at ebarrett@amchamchina.org by 5pm on Wednesday, July 22, or can be asked in-person during the event.

    Senior Deputy Nonimmigrant Visa Chief at U.S. Embassy Beijing

    Neal Vermillion is the Senior Deputy Nonimmigrant Visa Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. Neal moved to Beijing in August of 2012 to complete the second year of a two year Mandarin language training program before beginning his current position in the summer of 2013.
    Prior to his service in China, Neal served as Consul in Perth, Australia from 2008-2011; Second Secretary and Consul in Antananarivo, Madagascar from 2006-2008; and Vice Consul in Sofia, Bulgaria from 2003-2005. Neal joined the Foreign Service in November 2002.
    Originally from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Neal graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University (B.A., 1996) with an undergraduate degree in political science and history. He received a graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison (M.A., 1999) focusing on American history.
