Life after the Super Cycle: China's Energy Oversupply and its Impact on Markets and Players
With economic growth decelerating, China's energy demand is also moderating substantially.
Amcham China's Oil & Gas, Energy and Power (OEP) Forum has invited Mr. Xi Zhou Zhou, Senior Director of IHS Energy, to discuss what might happen after a "super cycle" in which a decade of phenomenal consumption growth caused commodity prices to surge.
It also prompted energy companies to invest significant capital in new supply, including the global upstream, LNG projects, oil refineries, coal mines, power plants, among others. Many of these projects -- often capital intensive and requiring long lead time to bring online -- are now entering the market, creating oversupply concerns not just in China but also globally. Energy sector players now must adjust to life after the latest super cycle.
