China's rapid economic growth, while making it the No. 2 economy in the world, has brought with it a variety of societal issues. A few examples include the reliance on coal-based energy, income disparity, and limited access to education. Civil society is relatively new in China; Government has recently begun to introduce policies in efforts of addressing these social issues. Furthermore, companies need to get involved as well – through philanthropy, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and through shared value.

Creating Shared Value, a new concept published by Porter/Kramer in HBR, challenges the purpose of business. Corporations must be redefined as creating shared value, not just profit. This mentality is vital for driving the next wave of innovation and productivity growth in the global economy. Lotus Consulting, a strategic advisory firm certified in Shared Value, will partner with Nestle and Dow Chemical in a panel discussion to share the core principles of Shared Value, highlight their initiatives that have simultaneously driven business returns and social impact, as well as discuss lessons learned along the way.
Participants will better understand the key principles and methods of Creating Shared Value. They will also learn how companies embark on their Shared Value journey – through an initiative or enterprise-wide approach. Creating Shared Value is not just a new term for CSR, but a model for the next wave of business innovation that can also address some of our pressing social issues at scale. Business leaders, CSR Heads, Innovation Departments and Community leaders may be interested in attending this workshop.
