CSR Summer Series: The Nonprofit Sector - A New Source of Economic Dynamism
Nonprofit organizations are well-known for helping millions across the globe. But how often is the nonprofit sector associated with economic growth?
In the US, the nonprofit sector represents approximately 5 percent of gross domestic product, 10 percent of wages, and has been creating jobs proportionately faster than many other parts of the economy. The factors underlying these results are numerous and include a complex mix of laws, policies, tax incentives and societal factors.
In the first installment of AmCham China's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) summer series, Thomas Fraser will discuss lessons learned from a lengthy study of how countries have developed their nonprofit sectors and how these insights could be beneficial for China and many others.
Fraser manages a boutique law practice in New York City. His practice focuses on helping clients develop original insight, solve difficult problems and identify new opportunities in the areas of nonprofit and charitable organizations, international trade, and financial markets. He writes a newsletter read by chief executive officers, general counsels, senior policymakers and others in five continents. He has a JD from Columbia University and a BA from Hastings College.
