China Big Data – Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategies
Data is increasing at an astounding rate and the analysis and understanding of these large sets of data, known as "Big Data", is the key to gaining a competitive advantage. This is of considerable importance in China, which will soon become the world's most important data market. IDC forecasts that the global market of big data and services will reach US $16.1 billion in 2014, nearly RMB 100 billion.
The age of Big Data is coming. Statistics show that nearly half of the leading companies in each industry have established their own data management strategies, which companies have on average four times the average annual revenue than their peers. Additionally, more and more leading players in the IT industry are prioritizing Big Data as a major driver for growth. Chinese companies such as Alibaba and Baidu are incorporating Big Data into their strategic plans, with Alibaba creating a new data-platform division with approximately 800 employees.
