(Tianjin) Women Professionals Committee Lunch: Gender Equity Is Everyone’s Business

According to the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index 2020, China only ranks 106 out of 153 countries. A career in some specific industries, such as technology, logistics, or construction, has previously been seen as more of a "male" career path and the gap in those sectors is even wider.

At this month's WPC lunch, we are very honored to have Steven Cao, Chairman of Chayora China, and Martin Winchell, Managing Director of Schneider Logistics Greater China, joining us as guest speakers. They will share how they help their female employees grow and promote leadership development in their respective industries and careers, and why they think "gender equity" is so important.

We have also reserved enough time for Q & A. Michael Hart, Chairman of AmCham China, Tianjin will moderate the Q&A session. Please prepare questions and feel free to send them to us before the event. We also welcome "Male Allies" to joining this special luncheon, sharing your experience as well as listening to voices from your female colleagues.

This committee is designed to foster a sense of community and support among women professionals in Tianjin. During WPC events, a female industry leader engages her colleagues with a presentation that often speaks to the challenges that women face within the corporate world, while also challenging women on how to be better leaders and coworkers.

Speakers

Steven Cao
Chairman at Chayora China, and Managing Director of the Hong Kong-based Chayora Limited.
As head of the China team, Mr. Cao is committed to providing international standard infrastructure for China's fast-growing digital industry. Besides, Steven strives to contribute to sustainability by introducing "green" and "carbon neutral" concepts to Chayora data centre campuses in Tianjin and Shanghai.

Prior to joining Chayora, Steven worked for the State Grid Corporation of China and the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, where he was responsible for overseas operations. Steven graduated from the University of Strathclyde and the University of Stirling in the UK with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Engineering. Steven is also an executive member of WAC (Women's Advisory Council), contributing to the advancement of women's equality in the workplace.

Martin Winchell
Managing Director-Greater China of Schneider Logistics Inc.
Martin Winchell is the Managing Director-Greater China for Schneider Logistics Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schneider National and a premier provider of logistics solutions that delivers measurable value to the most complex supply chains. In this position, Martin was responsible for Schneider’s entry into China, its acquisition strategy and further growth. As Managing Director, Martin is responsible for leading Schneider Logistics (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. which offers logistics, transportation and supply chain management services for the domestic Chinese market covering more than 25 cities and with more than 600 associates.

Martin has worked and traveled in China since the mid 1990’s moving full-time to Shanghai in 2005. In 2008, he moved to Tianjin/Beijing; splitting time at the Chinese headquarters in Tianjin and the government affairs office in Beijing. He has been a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin since arriving in China in 2005. Martin has served as a Tianjin American Executive Committee member since 2013 and was former Chairman of Tianjin Chapter.

Martin has bachelor’s degree in international economics from the University of Wyoming.

Michael Hart (Moderator)
Chairman of AmCham China, Tianjin and Managing Director of Griffin Business Management.
Michael has spent over 20 years in greater China including stints in Taipei, Shanghai and Tianjin primarily focused on commercial real estate. In Tianjin he opened and led a branch office for a NYSE-listed commercial real estate business for over a decade.

In 2019 he founded Griffin Business Management, a commercial real estate focused investment and consultancy business which has a division that owns and operates American quick service restaurants.

Michael has spent over a decade on the Tianjin Executive Committee for AmCham China and is its current chairman. He is a regular speaker and author on economic and property issues related to China. He also regularly leads walking tours of Tianjin’s former foreign concessions.
