Please join us to walk through the French & British Concession in Tianjin with AmCham China President, Michael Hart, on March 29 (Sunday).
There is no better way to uncover Tianjin's history than by walking the very streets where it unfolded. Our tours invite you to explore a city rich with hidden architectural treasures and little-known historical stories. On this walk, we will delve deep into the heart of the former French and British concessions, bringing the Tianjin of the early 1900s back to life.
We will begin our tour at the Jiefang Bridge and proceed along Jiefang Road, which was once one of old Tianjin's main centers of commerce and activity. Along the way, we will pass by historic banks, trading houses, government buildings, clubs, and religious structures. The tour includes a stop at the Anglican Church, where you can step inside to learn about its history and enjoy a complimentary drink. Wethen proceed to the Wudadao (Five Boulevards) Area, a former residential district, before concluding with lunch (Optional). Along the way, discover why Tianjin attracted such a unique mix of people and how its foreign concessions left a distinctive architectural and cultural legacy.
The tour will be led by Michael Hart, AmCham China President. He has resided in Tianjin for over a decade, and most of his career has focused on commercial real estate in China.
The walking tour will last approximately 3.5 hours. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. The tour will conclude near Min Yuan Square, where we will have lunch at Smoki & Co. (individual orders). The flowers are blooming, so be sure to grab the chance to enjoy them.
