[Beijing, Hybrid, EN] Trump's April Visit: What to Expect, and Where Do We Go From There

With a potential visit to Beijing by President Donald Trump later this month, there is an opportunity to strengthen communication and explore areas of cooperation. If confirmed, this would be his first official visit to China in his second presidential term and the first by a sitting US president in about 8 years.

Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink will assess the risks and opportunities emerging from President Trump's planned April visit to China and what it signals for the trajectory of U.S.-China relations. He will share insights into Washington's thinking and examine the implications for U.S. businesses โ€” from trade and technology controls to supply chains, market access, and regulatory risk โ€” amid a more competitive China landscape shaped by the Two Sessions, the 15th Five-Year Plan, and more.

This session will be conducted in English.

From 2013 to 2015, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, where he was a key player in managing the U.S.-China relationship at a time of rising geopolitical tensions. He played a critical role in high-level diplomatic negotiations, economic dialogues, and crisis management efforts, including maritime disputes and cybersecurity concerns.

Ambassador Kritenbrink’s diplomatic career spans three decades, with previous assignments in Japan, China, Kuwait, and Washington, D.C.
